Microneedling
Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, creates tiny punctures in the top layer of the skin, which triggers the body to create new collagen and elastin.
What is microneedling?
Microneedling is a popular skincare treatment that uses precise “micro-injuries” to stimulate the skin’s self-repair mechanism. This process triggers new collagen synthesis without causing scars or other damage to the skin. The resulting channels allow skincare products to penetrate deeper into the skin, resulting in improved product delivery. This procedure is perfect for people who suffer from textural issues such as acne scarring and enlarged pores.
How microneedling works
Microneedling is also called collagen induction therapy, and for good reason – the procedure stimulates collagen and elastin synthesis by creating tiny channels into the epidermis. When this happens, your body goes into self-repair mode, tightening the skin in the process.
What to expect during your appointment
We’ll talk about the correct depth for your comfort level and desired result before cleansing the skin and applying our specially compounded numbing cream. If desired, we can also dermaplane or microderm the skin prior to treatment for more intense results. After 20-30 minutes, the numbing agent is removed. The actual microneedling procedure takes only 5-10 minutes. Depending on the depth of the needles, you can feel almost nothing to a sharper sensation, especially over bony prominences. We will conclude the treatment with an application of skin-specific serums. Expect to be at our office for about 60 minutes, including numbing time.
Length of results
Results are typically seen even after the first treatment. But for the best results, a series of at least 3 treatments (typically closer to 6) are required spaced 4-6 weeks apart. The number of treatments you require is determined by your skin’s health and your aesthetic goals.
