Pigmentation / Sun Damage
Hyperpigmentation is caused by an overproduction of melanin due primarily to excess sun exposure.
What is pigmentation / sun damage?
Pigmentation and sun damage are usually caused by an overproduction of melanin. The most common reasons are excess sun exposure and post inflammatory response. Prolonged sun exposure puts your skin at risk of developing damage from UV rays. Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation occurs when an area of healing produces increased pigment and subsequently darkens the skin. Although most pigmentation and sun damage darkens the skin, sometimes hypopigmentation can occur in which you have a loss of melanin and the skin becomes lighter in that area.
