Skin Lesion Removal

Skin lesions (or changes in the epidermal and dermal tissue) tend to develop as we age. While some may progress into cancerous cells, most are considered benign, or harmless. These non-threatening lesions come in many forms: skin tags, broken capillaries, seborrheic keratoses, and sun spots. Actinic keratoses are lesions that are regarded as pre-cancerous. They may not necessarily turn into skin cancer, but it is best to treat them before they have a chance to become one. By using freezing or burning techniques, we easily remove the lesion in just a few sessions.

How It Works

There are two main methods of removing lesions. One uses liquid nitrogen to freeze the cells. The extremely cold temperature instantly kills the cells. The lesion then turns into a scab and eventually sloughs off. The other technique utilizes a hyfrecator. This machine emits a low-energy, high-frequency pulse to the treated area. The pulse immediately destroys the lesion. The area scabs over and falls off once new, fresh skin has formed underneath.

What To Expect

We will begin by analyzing each lesion that you’d like treated. If anything looks suspicious, we won’t treat it but will refer you to a healthcare provider that can. Depending on the type and size of the lesion, we will use either liquid nitrogen or the hyfrecator. Both treatments feel like a very small, pinpoint sting. The sensation may be intensified around sensitive areas but goes away immediately. Treatment time varies from 10-30 minutes in length.

Length Of Results

Results of treated skin tags and other minor imperfections can be considered permanent. However, it does not prevent additional lesions from growing in a similar area or fashion. Actinic keratoses have a reputation for being more stubborn. If any lesion is persistent or shows signs of growth or change despite multiple sessions, we will send you to a specialist.

Number Of Treatments

The number of treatments is determined by the severity of the condition we are treating. Skin tags and mild actinic lesions may only need 2-3 sessions whereas more severe sun damage may take additional treatments. We will refer you to the appropriate medical professionals if more careful monitoring is needed.

Acne cortisone injection

It’s practically inevitable: you are about to shoot a big scene, are in a wedding party, or have a major presentation. You’ve felt a big bump growing and festering in the middle of your chin for days, and it has finally decided to erupt into a red, painful and very noticeable pimple. It’s too deep to extract and medicinal creams have only made your skin more irritated. A quick cortisone injection will not only help shrink the cyst within 24 hours but it will also immediately help with the redness and sensitivity. Treating the acne can also help reduce the likelihood of scarring, discoloration, and infection.

How It Works

Cortisone is a corticosteroid, a steroid hormone that our body produces to help reduce inflammation. However, the cortisone that the body makes is short-acting and sometimes cannot efficiently target specific areas of inflammation. For this reason, cortisone can be injected directly into an inflamed area such as acneic cysts to decrease irritation, diminish tenderness, and promote quick healing.

What To Expect

We first determine whether the acne is worth injecting. Acneic cysts are best treated as soon as possible, and all areas of the face and body can be treated. The majority of pimples will only need a single injection in each cyst. Every injection will receive the precise amount of cortisone to help reduce inflammation but not cause skin atrophy. Treatments last about 5-10 minutes depending on the number of lesions.

Length Of Results

Results are permanent, but there are a couple things to keep in mind. Just because the cyst has been treated doesn’t mean you will never get acne in the same exact spot again. In fact, most people who suffer from cystic acne will develop pimples in the same area. Also, the cyst can occasionally feel firm for up to two weeks after an injection. That does not mean there was not enough cortisone injected. Remember, the injection simply reduces inflammation – your body still needs to absorb the cyst.

Number Of Treatments

You can treat fresh acne as often as you like. However, we caution patients about repetitively treating the same areas and will advise you if an injection is not recommended. Injecting the same lesion again will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Vitamin B12 injection

Vitamin B12 is a water-soluble vitamin that has two main functions: to help regulate metabolism and aid in energy production. This vitamin also plays an important role in preventing cardiovascular disease, dementia and other cognitive disabilities. The main objective of the injection is to give you an extra burst of vitamin to help kick start the body’s energy reserves and give you more drive.

How It Works

Vitamin B12 is naturally found in food products such as fish, meat, poultry, and dairy products. A person’s normal daily consumption will usually satisfy the RDA level of 2.4mcg/day. However, there are times in everyone’s lives where stress, fatigue, and exhaustion can consume us. A B12 injection may help initiate your cells to go into overdrive and produce more energy for your body to use.

What To Expect

After careful evaluation and determining that a B12 injection is suitable for you, we will establish the correct dosage to administer given your needs. A designated amount will be injected into the gluteus. The procedure is quick and painless, taking approximately 5 minutes. (Evaluation may take longer.)

Length Of Results

Depending on the severity of the initial energy deficiency, the results can last anywhere from one week to indefinitely.

Number Of Treatments

Injections are on an as-needed basis. Most patients will reach their desired energy level with one injection. Additional treatments may be needed for more severe cases. A comprehensive physical and mental review must be completed before ongoing, continuous treatments are performed.

Sclerotherapy

Leg veins are notoriously difficult to get rid of, and they range greatly from tiny little spider veins called telangiectasias to varicose veins that can be so large, they can easily be felt. Genetics as well as environmental factors contribute to venous conditions. Sclerotherapy is an injection technique that helps eliminate unsightly and sometimes painful veins up to 4mm in diameter. Telangiectasias are found in almost half of women, and sclerotherapy remains one of the most commonly sought out procedures in cosmetics.

How It Works

Sclerotherapy is a process in which a sclerosant or sclerosing agent is injected directly into the veins. By disrupting the venous walls, the veins collapse and are eventually absorbed by the body. The blood is then rerouted to another venous system (often deeper and thus less detectable), leaving the treated areas free of visible vessels.

What To Expect

Before we begin the actual procedure, we will discuss exactly which veins can and cannot be treated. If a vein is too large, deep or necessary, we will avoid them, and referrals to a vascular surgeon may be recommended. Injections take precision and blocks of time in which the patient must lay still. We will adjust the bed accordingly to make the treatment as comfortable as possible. A test spot will be performed to observe for any allergic reaction. If there are none, a series of injections directly into the veins will take anywhere from 15-45 minutes depending on the amount of veins treated. Afterwards, your legs will be wrapped in bandages or compression stockings.

Length Of Results

Appropriately treated veins typically have permanent results. However, new veins may develop in the same area and eventually require treatment.

Number Of Treatments

You should wait at least 6 weeks before getting another sclerotherapy procedure. Some veins may take 2-3 treatments to achieve maximum results.

Scar and Stretch Marks Therapy

Scars and stretch marks are hard to treat because they come in many different sizes, colors, and depth. Because of their variety, several techniques are used to achieve optimal results. These include fractionated lasering, chemical peels, microdemabrasion, fillers, IPL photofacials, and cortisone injections. By using several modalities and tailoring the therapy to your particular scars, we can improve the appearance and health of your skin.

How It Works

Raised scars occur when fibroblasts heal in a jumbled, confused way. Fractionated lasering breaks up the fibroblasts so that they can lay flatter and more evenly. Chemical peels and microdermabrasions help to exfoliate the scars. They smooth out the texture and remove some of the pigmentation. Fillers are great for acne scarring or any other lesion that causes depressions in the skin. By adding volume underneath the scar, your texture will be more even. IPL photofacials can help eliminate either the red or brown colors of scars. Finally, cortisone injections reduce inflammation and can soften tough, overgrown scars.

What To Expect

Scar and stretch marks therapy always begin with a consultation. After carefully analyzing the areas to be treated, we will come up with a treatment plan that fits into your lifestyle and that will best treat your type of scar. Each session may be different, so treatment times cannot be estimated. Please refer to other sections for more in-depth information on treatments.

Length Of Results

Once you complete your series, results can be considered permanent. However, there are a few things to keep in mind. Your lifestyle and type of skin will determine how long your results truly last. The more sun exposure your scar or stretch marks gets, the faster they will return to their original state. Also, some people have skin that naturally builds scar tissue easily – they may need to do additional touch-up treatments.

Number Of Treatments

Each session should be scheduled at least 4-8 weeks apart. The number of treatments is completely dependent upon the scar or stretch mark. Small, fresh scars may need only 2-3 treatments while a large, 10-year old tummy tuck scar can take 5-8 sessions. We will provide you with a better timeline during your consultation.
